Blank pages in Canvas

If you click on a tool in the Canvas course navigation and a blank page loads, this could be caused by your browser's security settings or by running over the limit of your browser's cookie storage. To find the cause, open a New Private Window (Firefox, Safari) or New Incognito Window (Chrome) and load the same Canvas tool in that window.

If the tool still shows a blank page, turn off the option to prevent cross-site tracking cookies.

  • Google Chrome: Go to the browser's Settings, select Privacy and Security, select Third-party Cookes and select 'Allow third-party cookies' (Chrome)
  • Firefox: Go to the browser's Settings, select Privacy and Security, select Custom under Enhanced Tracking Protection (if enabled) and deselect the 'Cookies' option in the list of things to block.
  • Safari: Go to the browser's Settings, select Privacy and deselect the 'Prevent cross-site tracking' option.

If the tool loads properly, you will need to delete cookies, use a different browser or continue to use a private/incognito window. If you want to minimize disruption from deleting cookies (which will remove your logins and site preferences), you can choose to remove cookies for a short time frame (last hour or last 24 hours)

To delete browser cookies:

  • Google Chrome: Go to the browser's Settings, select Delete Browsing Data, select a desired time range, then make sure the 'Cookies and site data' option is selected. You can deselect other types of data to delete, if desired. Select the Delete Data button.
  • Firefox: Go to the browser's History, select Clear Recent History, select a desired time range, then make sure the 'Cookies and site data' option is selected. You can deselect other types of data to delete, if desired. Select the Clear button.
  • Safari: Go to the browser's History, select Clear History, select a desired time range, then select the Clear History button.
